This is one of those things you never picture yourself drawing- I never imagined drawing a mantis, let alone one eating stars- but this is what I got when asked to do 'a dementedly deviant Praying Mantis from outer space' as the 32000 kiriban prize.

He chews the stars that grow upon the ground.

A deliciously sci-fi picture, I hope; My inspiration was a drawing of M.C. Escher's, which also featured a mantis. I'm pretty sure it was called 'Dream'.

This mantis does not have well-drawn legs. Mantis have awkward anatomy.
My stars look like dandelions
But I think they're best that way in this situation.
